August 2012: A Glimpse of the Month and Why I love Photographing Weddings

As Kevin had to work last weekend, I took a break and cleaned my office. My ex-roommate spent hours cleaning her closets because she always tried out all her clothes in the process. In my case, I opened and skimmed books in my office. And this take hours because Kevin and I have a collection that a library would probably want their name on our will when we passed away. I am such a sucker for business, decorating and photography books. So last week, I decided to go through my photography books as I hadn’t done so in about six months. I started with Paul Nicklen’s book: Polar Obsession, got distracted and started flipping through Kevin’s NatGeo magazine collection, continued on Room with a View by Conde Nast Traveler, and due to the similar huge sizes, started reading through beautiful writing (accompanied by beautiful images, what a bonus!) of Assouline Publisher on New York, Paris, … and the lock on my front door clicked. Kevin was home and it had been eight hours. We exchanged lingering kisses, made dinner together and talked about our days. While talking, I felt a deep joy in my heart. I searched where it came from. And not long after, I knew, that it came from the feeling of being rich. I felt rich going through all the beautiful images that day. It is a joy for me to travel through those images that day. And I remember a question that some close friends of mine asked: why do you want to be a  wedding photographer? At the beginning, I have always thought because I enjoyed being a part of people’s milestones in their lives. That being true, if I search deeper, I feel rich being able to document these moments for them. And I want them  to be able to travel through time one day, on their anniversaries, or simply when they clean their room/office, see their wedding album, relive the moments and at the end of the day, feel rich. For me, images created from a heart that appreciates love, creativity and documentary blended with the passion of composition and design, will never fail to deliver the message. It’s about the story. And at the end of the day, you are enriched by it.

That was my renewed commitment to myself and my clients when documenting their milestones and lives, to create imagery that speaks story and enriches lives.

That being said, I would like to share a glimpse of our lives this month through photos on my iPhone. I read a lot this month and thus the pictures on book covers.

Things and places we have gotten/done/been to:

1. Our 27″ iMac is finally here…

2. New friend: Oskar. He is a bit fluffy but super cute!

3. Balzacs Coffee in Distillery District. Great coffee, great place, great people!

4. Amazed by Hart House.

5. Hero Burgers, where were you all my life?

6. Toronto’s third city hall at sunset, what a beauty.

7. Kevin and I took a walk one weekend to one of the parks close to our place and saw that giant tree (bottom left corner). I am planning of getting our pictures taken this year and I think we are going there. (Photo credit: Kevin :))

8. Dinner at The Gabardine with a few friends visiting from Vancouver and Tokyo. We are coming back, enough said!
