Travel Friendly Gowns

Good morning! A couple months ago we were contacted by Simply Bridal and couldn’t be more excited to hear that they want to submit a guest post! After a few emails back and forth, we decided to go with their expertise on wedding dress. We also have destination wedding inquiries which lead us to working towards blogposts and client package that help our brides in planning their destination weddings.  It’s only fitting to us to combine these two into a post! So, here is Natalie giving her advice on choosing the right gown for your destination wedding:

Destination weddings are so fun and spontaneous! They are a once in a lifetime opportunity and you want to make sure you do it right! If you’re planning on having a destination wedding it is important to choose the right gown to travel with. Don’t let the thought of this scare you or feel like it complicates things. Here are a few tips below to help you pick your perfect travel-friendly gown!

Know Your Setting

In order to choose your gown it is important to know where your destination wedding is going to take place. If your ceremony is going to take place during the day, don’t be afraid to find something with a lot of detail such as beading, pleats, embroidery, etc. These things won’t be seen during a night ceremony but are perfect for daytime events! If your ceremony is going to be happening later in the evening find something that is more on the simple side but still very elegant. Also consider if the temperature is going to drop at night because you will want to plan accordingly for that as well.

Many destination weddings take place outdoors so keep that in mind when you are deciding the style of gown you want. You may want to go with something shorter if you are going to be walking through sand or perhaps something longer if you aren’t. The destination plays a huge roll in terms of picking a dress that is going to be a perfect fit for your desired venue.

Size Matters

Most women think, “the bigger the better”… not always true when picking a gown for a destination wedding. That long train you’ve always dreamed of trailing behind you down the aisle may not be the right choice. The bigger the gown, the more space it is going to take up when packing your gown to travel. Perhaps trying something less intense or even a shorter bridal gown could be just the ticket in terms of your destination wedding. Especially if you’re planning on being outdoors, a shorter look would definitely be a great look for your destination-wedding day.  If you must have  a train, consider one that is removable or can be easily bustled.

Material World

Not only is the style of dress important, but also the choice of fabric. Consider where your destination is when selecting the fabric for your gown. If you’re heading somewhere exotic and tropical, you’ll want a dress made out of lighter more breezy fabrics such as natural fabrics that allow your body to breathe. Refrain from silky fabrics since they do tend to wrinkle very easily. Synthetic fabrics tend to not wrinkle very easily and typically cost less but sometimes they can make you sweaty or itchy.

Natalie, thank you for your insightful tips! We do hope this post helps brides in choosing the right gown. And if so, please leave a kind comment below.

Happy planning!
