A Travel Journal: Historical Jogjakarta and Seoul
During our trip earlier this year to Indonesia, we had the chance to spend some time with our loved ones. But it was also the time for us to satisfy our thirst for travelling. So we decided to take it on to Jogjakarta. While Bali is infamous for their tropical appeal, we decided to go somewhere less crowded and less commercialized. It was so worth it.
For those who aren’t sure where Jogjakarta is, it is located in Central Java in Indonesia. The region played such an important role in Indonesia’s history that the government awarded it a status as the only region to be headed by a monarch. You’ll see some of the pictures that we took inside and around the Sultan’s Palace, one of UNESCO World Heritage Site – Borobudur Temple, and a home industry where the local artists produce silverwork.
Above picture: This friendly “tour-guide” appeared out of nowhere and showed us around the Sultan’s neighbourhood. Apparently, he said that his great great grandfather was the Sultan’s dedicated helper (abdi dalem). Coincidence? Maybe.
We got up around 3 a.m. one morning and decided to hike this not-so little hill to see the Borobudur Temple from above. About half an hour after we got up there, we saw this amazing view. So worth it.
Also, on our way back to Canada we got stranded in Seoul. It was a 7 hour flight delay, but we left the airport to take on a short city-tour. I guess it’s true that they say: when the travelling bug bit you, it’s hard to let go.
Sharing the love,
Kevin
