One Image: The Power of Thankfulness

toronto wedding photographer

There is a certain level of trust that we look for from prospectives during client meetings. We always asked them if they have seen our portfolio and what they loved (or didn’t) from our work. On certain occasions, they haven’t really looked through our website and that was fine as we had slideshows prepared for them to look through on the spot and share what they feel towards our work.

When we didn’t see a spark, we would gently nudge them into finding their perfect fits. We would go separate ways and we would equipped them with our trusted wedding photographer friends to check out and contact.

We could only be at one place at one time and we wanted to make sure that we worked with the couples that see the value of photography and love our works. If we haven’t find these particular ones, we’ll keep looking. And up to this point, we haven’t failed to do so. For us, it’s important to know our calling and work with people with the same vision 🙂

I am used to getting emails from our couples after the signed contract and deposited retainer that said they had made the best decisions of hiring us (which also meant that we made the best decisions to work with them too!). But not until last night, I was floored by a thankful email from a couple who just booked with us this month.

In the midst of Thanksgiving (Happy Thanksgiving to our American friends by the way ;)) and the familiar faces on the dinner table, she felt something is missing. She felt that she needed to send us an email liberating the feelings she and her fiance had over our new agreement to work together on their wedding next year. Her words are simple but powerful. Over the process of finding the photographers for their wedding day, they are thankful that we made the process so quick and easy. Our less than 36 hours responses had helped her to not just narrow down on her choices but also in perfecting her timeline of the day. Our meeting to get to know each other had made them realized that they decided to meet with us through our portfolio and to book with us because of our personalities. It went on for awhile which I will keep to myself so that we get to my point faster ;). Her email ended with an invitation to a dinner at their place next year. And the cheers on her email was to our newly found friendship through a business meeting. And I could not agree more.

I read her email before I shut down my laptop for the night. I didn’t reply right away because really, I had so much to say. When I had so much to say, I waited 12-24 hours before replying so they didn’t get overwhelmed by my lengthy response. I started today’s work with a different feeling. I am energized to start working, to start creating. I know that motivation should come from the inside but today, it certainly came from her. And what I noticed is that the power of thanksgiving is big. It’s huge! I am planning to stop by Chapters today and get some thank you cards. I want to make it a habit for us to send one thank you card per week to a friend, client, vendor, anyone… Because reading a thankful note from her had changed my week, my life… And I wanted to do just the same to everyone around us.

Share the love,
Jenn

PS: the image has nothing to do with her email. Just two random things I collected in my house.
