One Image: Taking Chances
November 18, 2013
Last Friday, we finished dinner at about 7pm. It had been a sunny day and when you looked out the window, the sky was clear (ie. not cloudy). We checked online the possibility of seeing aurora borealis that day. It was pretty high! So we packed hot chocolate and some savouries and up we went. 2.5 hours north of Toronto.
We tested a few shots and waited and chatted and tested some more shots and waited. And then we gave up. The window of time was 11pm to 3am and we waited. The sky got clearer every hour but no signs of the aurora borealis. At the last hour of the window, we went home and talked about taking chances. We knew in life that taking chances play a big part. But for us that day, it was also about creating a memory together. We are framing the following image in our house. To remind us that life is about taking chances and creating a memory together.

What wonderful inspiration and meaning this photograph has! The photo itself is dramatic! I feel as photographers, we are always being overly picky about clarity, composition, exposure, etc…. but we all need to realize that a photo doesn’t have to be 100% perfect to evoke an emotional response; which I feel is the most important element of what we do!
Very inspiring! Photography is all about memories!
Cheers to taking chances. I hope to photograph Aurora Borealis one day as well 🙂
Love it 🙂 It’s so cool to have a tangible reminder of that night and the time you guys spent together!
I love that you are framing that image – that says so much about you as a couple!
I love the photo and I love the story behind it. Life is about experiences. Not necessarily the perfectly planned ones. Most of the time, the unexpected experiences are the best ones.
Thats the way we should look at life – what a great reminder!
