A Travel Journal: Krabi, Thailand

We were in Thailand in March (and the beginning of April) for a family reunion. A really fun one! We Instagrammed a lot and learned that hashtags connect you with people from around the world. People who are traveling in Thailand at that time and people who are planning their travel to Thailand. Due to the high interests in places we’ve been, services we’ve used and great food we’ve tasted, we have decided to compile all of the info in three blog posts. We went to three parts of Thailand and we are going to divide the post accordingly based on these regions.

Our trip was a little bit scattered brain. We arrived in Bangkok late at night and took an early flight south to Krabi (and then flew back to Bangkok a week after that meeting our family. A few days later, we took the flight north to Chiang Mai). So we’ve technically went to north (Chiang Mai), central (Bangkok) and south (Krabi).

When we said scattered brain, we really were! We had two winter weddings quite close to the trip and were coming back to three weddings in the remainder of April. Sooo we completely forgot to book an overnight hotel in Bangkok until 2 days before our flight! Haha! We arrived at 22:30 and were supposed to catch a flight the next morning at 10:00. I (Jenn) did suggest Kevin to just sleep in the airport since we’ve done that in the past when the layover was short and accomodation was not available through the airline. Anyways, long story short, we did book a night in Mariya Hotel through Expedia.

We chose this hotel because they did have airport shuttle service from and to the hotel. The last thing you want in Bangkok (which we read through TripAdvisors and learned through our days later on in the trip) is to negotiate taxi fare with the drivers. Oh and that their breakfast service starts at 7:30 😉 We avoid airport food at all cost! Well, as much as we can, they tend to be overpriced and as budget travelers, we love the comfort of having the hotel to provide it for us. We have to catch a 10 AM flight so we planned not to wander around the (foreign) city finding breakfast in the morning.  One warning about this hotel though (which is only mentioned once in the review), they don’t have elevator/escalator so if you are traveling with disability or the elderly or bringing huge luggages, take this into account. We were placed in their fourth floor which was not bad and I think they only have five floors in total.

We booked our flight to Krabi directly through Thai Smile Airways. We did some research about four weeks before our travel for a few days straight to find the best deal through: Flight Network, Priceline, Expedia and Trip Advisor. Also, when you search for flights, make sure that you do so through Google Incognito so they don’t read your cookies and increase the price as you search often (unsure of this but we were given tips by our traveler friends about this). One day, we decided to just go directly through their local airlines and see if the price is comparable. Well, we found out that you could save around $80/person per flight if you went directly! In the end, we paid CAD$135 per person for our roundtrip ticket BKK-KRB.

Enjoy the photos, this place is seriously incredible! It is hard to not take good pictures here! And at the end of this post, please find more information of hotels and restaurants that we went to while there. Oh and also, if you are interested and/or know anyone who will be getting married in Krabi, we would love to be in touch and be their Krabi wedding photographer!
